Judicial Vote in Bolivia: A First

Bolivia continues to stumble its way toward a fuller and more complete democracy. The country continues deeply divided over Evo Morales's government and its goals, and today's election of judges nationwide, even though it is a first for the country, may turn out to be less democratizing than the government claims. The results of the vote -- in which opponents are promoting a "nulo" or "null" or "no" vote on ballots to show opposition to Morales's socialist agenda -- will be most interesting to see.
