Inside La Paz's San Pedro prison

I had hoped to get into San Pedro prison on Thursday, 19 November, but they wouldn't let me in. I was visiting Leopoldo Fernandez, a candidate for vice-president for one of the opposition parties, and the former prefect (governor) of Pando Department. He's been inside the prison for more than a year without charges filed against him. It's called "preventive detention," and it's really about the government preventing him from voicing opening his opposition to Evo Morales and his followers. He is for all practical purposes a political prisoner.
