Buenos Aires - a Lady With a Past

There was a time, many decades ago, when Buenos Aires was the richest and most beautiful major city in the hemisphere, often called the "Paris of South America." Politicos and sociologists will debate what have been the root causes of its steady and inexorable decline and decay. I don't care to point fingers. What I would like to do is pay tribute to a great city and its people, who hang on, in spite of their governments, in spite of historical trends, in spite of some bad luck. This city, a grand old lady on hard times, is still fabulously impressive, filled with history and art and culture, and is inhabited by one of the more unique and interesting populations on the planet.
