Lugo hangs on by a thread

Paraguay's president, Fernando Lugo, has had trouble all year with military officers who don't like his reformist policies, and the political opposition has taken advantage of that by encouraging disloyal opposition. Recent reports of a possible coup have caused Lugo to replace his top military brass. The Obama Administration likes Lugo, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him pushed aside. Unfortunately, Washington seems to have just enough time and focus to deal with one Latin American crisis at a time, and all eyes are on Honduras these days. Honduras, of course, is far more important than Paraguay...
