Americas Press Freedom Index

Reporters Without Borders has just issued its 2009 press freedom index, including for the Americas. The United States, Jamaica, Uruguay, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica are at the top in this hemisphere, while Cuba is at the bottom and Mexico not far above it. In Cuba, it's the country's totalitarian political system. In Mexico, it's the drug-related violence and generalized corruption.
